Brigitte Saugstad was born January 15, 1960, in the heart of old town Vienna, Austria. Until the age of 14 she was an international figure-skater, winning the gold medal in the European Junior Championship, and many other awards.

Brigitte then apprenticed with the Vienna Artists Guild, restoring paintings and sculptures in the Belvedere Palace Museum, while studying the History of Art at the University of Vienna. She went on to study Ceramics and Design at the University of Applied Arts, where she received her Master's degree in 1989.

She also worked for the world famous Augarten Porcelain manufacturers where she developed mastery in the delicate techniques of porcelain painting. These skills, combined with her love of the mythological figures of India (where she has lived and traveled extensively) and her background in figure-skating, are all reflected in her meditative and joy-filled artworks.

Brigitte hand-models, glazes and embellishes each piece or set differently, and each artwork is therefore original and unique.
